Central Asian parliamentarians discuss water, climate and environmental security

On the sidelines of the fourth Interparliamentary Forum of Central Asian states in Dushanbe, a meeting focused on water, climate and environmental security as the basis for sustainable regional development.
In Dushanbe, as part of the fourth Interparliamentary Forum of Central Asian states held under the slogan “Unity for peace, security and prosperity of Central Asia”, a side event was held on the theme “Water, climate and environmental security as the basis for sustainable regional development”.
The meeting described water, climate and environmental security as the foundation of long-term sustainable development across Central Asia. It was noted that fast glacier melt, growing water shortages, dust and sand storms, and other environmental pressures are transboundary challenges that require coordinated action at national, regional and international levels.
It was also said that Tajikistan, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, continues to prioritise the expansion of regional cooperation. The forum ended with the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration.
